I have had my eye on the new Casio Aviator all analog product line since they came out. The black resin with orange face came first, then the black IP plated stainless steel band with the blue face was released, then a slew of other incarnations of the watch surfaced. By far the GW3000BB is my favorite of them all. For a long time I had been looking for a fully featured, extremely rugged watch that was simple and classic, yet modern. This fits the bill perfectly. I was able to pick this watch up for $240 and I must say that it is worth every penny. The fact that it is solar powered means I never have to wind it or replace the battery. The Atomic clock signal reception/calibration also means that I will never have to set it either. The 200 meter water resistance coupled with G-Shock's durability not to mention the watches ability to withstand extreme G forces without harming the watch or it's functions means I can wear this watch daily during any/all activities without worry. This watch will still be ticking keeping perfect time long after I'm gone. I am truly enamored with this watch. I highly recommend it.
This is a great precision watch. When I first opened it and put it on, I did have some difficulty learning how to use the watch, but I soon figured it out in less than 15 minutes using the manual. The watch was thicker than I expected to be(about .6 inch thick), at first I did not like this but after wearing it for weeks, and I have grown fond of it. If the watch were any thinner, the resin case would look cheap and flimsy, any bigger the watch would be obnoxious. I think it is the perfect size. There is a slight curvature to the lens protecting the watch face, this is something is not noticeable from the pictures. It is slightly reflective and quite scratch resistant (so far). The resin band is also very comfortable and secure, and from what I can tell very durable as well.
You can accurately tell what time it is down to the minute using this watch. The minute hand ticks slightly once every 10 seconds. The second hand ticks once per second when it has high battery life, and once every two seconds when the batter y is low. I have never experienced this 2 second per tick however, as mine has always ticked once every second, I have never had a problem with battery life. I use it normally, and don't go out of my way to set it in the sun or deliberately charge it. The atomic syncing is an awesome feature, although it does not sync for me successfully every day, the amount of time I technically would be "losing" would be impossible for a human to detect. The second hand matches up perfectly with a digital G-Shock watch I have every time I compare them.
I do have to complain about the luminous paint on the watch. It is the only real flaw with this watch. It does a great job absorbing light but releases the light too fast. After a few seconds of exposing it to the sun, the watch face will glow in the shade, this glow will quickly fade in a few minutes. Reading the watch face is very difficult if the watch has not been exposed to some sort of light, for example if it is 2:00AM and you have been wearing a jacket covering your watch for the past 2 hours, trying to read your watch under darkness would be virtually impossible. It functions quite well when you transition from environment with lots of light to an environment with little light, so long as it has been exposed. I have also read complaints of other reviewers on the volume of the alarm; I find it to be loud enough. It can wake me up from the other side of the room. On stopwatch mode the second hand ticks at 1/100, completing a full rotation of the watch face in 1 second. However, this stops ticking in 1/100 after one minute has elapsed. I'm not sure why it does this, perhaps to save power, perhaps it's because I'm doing something wrong.
This watch is like a nerdy digital watch in cool aviation analog watch clothing. You can tell it is very high-tech, very precise by the movement of the watch. You can tell it is rugged and almost indestructible by the feel of it on your wrist. It is a watch you don't have to worry about in any and every aspect.
This watch is really great! Doesn't always receive the signal for the automatic time updates (in MD), but it's still very Accurate. The movements are very precise. I've only had the watch for a week, but have already had a bunch of complimants on how good the watch looks. This watch looks a lot better than the other digital type watches...goes just as well with a suit as it does with jeans and a t-shirt. I definitely reccommend this watch for someone looking for a rugged, dependable, and sporty watch.
